Monthly RailKing 2018 Volume 2 O Gauge Catalog Product Spotlight

September 26, 2018 - Each month throughout the year, M.T.H. will be spotlighting various items from our RailKing 2018 Volume 2 O Gauge Catalog.  This week's feature will focus on the RailKing Union Pacific Big Boy Steam Locomotive; the New York Central Empire Express steam passenger set; the EMD E-6 Diesel passenger sets in Illinois Central, New York Central, Milwaukee Road and Southern roadnames; the PCC Electric Street Car; and select RailKing rolling stock including the 40' Double Door Box Car; and the 50' Modern Box Car. Each of these items is currently slated to begin delivering in December 2018.

U.P. 4-8-8-4 Big Boy Steam Locomotive - Just months before Pearl Harbor, the American Locomotive Company delivered the first Big Boy to the Union Pacific Railroad. The UP's Department of Research and Mechanical Standards had designed the locomotive for a specific task: to pull a 3600-ton train unassisted over the Wasatch Mountains in Utah.                   continue reading

NYC Empire State Express Passenger Set - Before it was eclipsed by the Twentieth Century Limited, the Empire State Express was the New York Central’s flagship passenger run. New York Central E-6 Diesel Passenger Set - The earliest E-units were each virtually custom made, with less than 20 units produced of models EA through E5. With the E6, EMD settled on a standardized passenger unit and began to produce it in large quantities.                                 continue reading		Milwaukee Road E-6 Diesel Passenger Set - Starting in 1939, before the war effort arrested production of all passenger diesels in 1942. The E6 was the last passenger diesel to sport the beautiful, rakish, streamlined EMD nose so characteristic of the 1930s.         continue reading
