At the apex of the tinplate era, American Flyer's top-of-the-line set was the President's Special. Introduced in 1926 with lithographed passenger cars and a painted engine, by 1928 the Special had evolved into a totally embossed, painted set with brass window inserts and details. While it lacked the interior furnishings of Lionel's best passenger cars, the Flyer set was nonetheless a magnificent train and, at $75.00, noticeably less expensive than comparable Lionel offerings. American Flyer's advertising department spared no hyperbole in its 1930 catalog description of the train:

"America's finest miniature railroad train and the "crack" train of the American Flyer lines, modeled after the 20th Century - America's Finest! Rich and beyond mere words to express its fascinating beauty, the "President's Special," a four-car train, stands out in bold relief, distinctive and individual against all other miniature trains. It is 100" long. Fashioned carefully and skillfully by master craftsmen. It is illuminated with 15 Mazda lamps. In this masterpiece are included all the leading features demanded by young Americans in a De Luxe train, plus the most exclusive and unique fun-making American Flyer features.

"Everything you see in this marvelous train is there - it has speed - it has stamina - it has matchless beauty and smartness of lines - it radiates richness in color scheme and boasts an array of solid brass and polished nickel trim found in no other train - Gross weight 40 lbs."

Our Lionel Corporation version adds a new twist to the glory of the President's Special in a manner never attempted when it was cataloged from 1928-1934. Available as a 3-car consist featuring a baggage car, Pullman and observation car. A separately sold Diner can also be purchased and when added to your set and layout you'll know what it felt like to be the luckiest kid on the block nearly eight decades ago.

M.T.H. Demonstration Schedule For Week of August 14, 2016

M.T.H. Electric Trains will be demonstrating the DCS WiFi App at M.T.H. Authorized Retailer Nicholas Smith on Saturday, August 20, 2016 in Broomall, Pennsylvania.

HO, S Scale, O Scale, One Gauge and tinplate model railroading fans attending the event will have an opportunity to meet and ask M.T.H. President Mike Wolf questions about the M.T.H. product line, company direction and future plans as well as see product demonstrations using the M.T.H. DCS WiFi App and Module. You'll also be able to pick up a copy of our latest catalogs.

Attendees can also bring along their TIU and have it upgraded to the latest DCS Software (Version 5.0) for FREE. Version 5.0 is required for use with the new DCS App and WIU Hardware.

M.T.H. Electric Trains has published it's first smartphone and tablet app for controlling a DCS layout wirelessly to the Apple App Store and Google Play stores.

The App provides access to the M.T.H. website allowing visitors to quickly find the latest news, search for products, watch product videos and much, much more.

The app can also control a DCS layout from any smartphone or tablet when paired with a DCS Wi-Fi Interface Unit and DCS Track Interface Unit. Both iOS and Android versions are FREE with an option for in-app purchase upgrades.
