Uncataloged Premier O Scale 36' Woodside Reefers Arriving Soon

March 9, 2024 - M.T.H. Electric Trains has announced an exclusive Premier O Scale 36' Woodside Reefer in a unique Ore Dock Brewery livery for the Northern Michigan Railroad Club. Ore Dock Brewery of Marquette, Michigan, in conjunction with the Northern Michigan Railroad Club, has created a "what if" woodside billboard reefer. Celebrating a bygone age the reefer contains a striking image of the lower harbor ore dock used by the Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic Railroad. This historical structure was used to load the rich ore of the Marquette Iron Range from railroad to lake freighter. These cars will be produced in very limited quantities and are available for order on a first-come, first-served basis, with an anticipated arrival date of May 2024.

Decoration is further inspired by the other resource of the region, beautiful Lake Superior and it's crisp, cool and clean waters. Its waters are used to brew some of the finest beer you will find anywhere! Help us celebrate Michigan beer by adding one to your reefer consist.

ABOUT THE PREMIER 36’ WOODSIDED REEFER CAR

The coming of the railroad changed the way America ate and drank. Before the iron horse connected every town of any importance to the outside world, most food was grown or produced locally. The arrival of cheap, fast, refrigerated transport — in the form of the woodsided reefer with ice bunkers at each end — enabled local brewers, dairies, meat processors, and other food businesses to become players on a national scale.

Until 1934, shippers could advertise their wares on leased billboard reefers, each a hand-painted traveling work of art. That year, the Interstate Commerce Commission outlawed the flamboyant paint schemes because the cars often hauled shipments from other companies — whose freight bills thus unfairly paid to advertise the lessee’s products.
