Uncataloged Premier O Scale Box Cars Released

December 13, 2019 - M.T.H. Electric Trains has released two exclusive Premier O Scale 40' Box Cars for M.T.H. Authorized Retailer Patrick's Trains in Wheeling, West Virginia. Both cars feature the livery of the Monon Railroad, but one of them carries a modification of the railroad herald thanks to local graffiti artists who applied their creative interpretation to the railroad name. Both cars are very limited in production and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

About the 40' Box Car

With see-through roof walks, grab irons, and other separately added parts, this model is a detailed replica of the Pullman-Standard PS-1 boxcar. Pullman had been making freight cars for more than half a century when it hit a home run with the PS-1. Introduced in 1947, it set the standard for postwar American freight cars. What made the PS-1 a landmark was its welded construction — an area in which Pullman led the industry. In addition to the lighter weight, welding offered superior strength and better resistance to weather and corrosion than contemporary riveted cars.

Like the EMD diesels that became ubiquitous on American railroads, the PS-1 was part of the postwar shift away from customized, railroad-specific locos and cars toward standardized designs produced in large quantities on efficient assembly lines. No wonder the PS-1 was soon followed by the highly successful PS-2 covered hopper, PS-3 open hopper, PS-4 flatcar, and PS-5 gondola.

The 2019 collection includes a variety of rolling stock, locomotives and passenger sets as well as new releases of RailKing O Gauge houses with multi-colored operating Christmas lights. Each of these houses can be paired with bridges, buildings, even Christmas trees - all adorned with operating Christmas lights - for an awesome holiday-themed layout!
