AC4400 Diesel - Two years behind rival EMD, General Electric entered the AC traction business in June 1993 with the AC4400CW — 4400 horsepower, "C" for 3-axle trucks, and "W" for wide North American cab. The new engine was basically an AC version of the Dash 9-44CW introduced the same year. The key external difference between the two engines is the large box behind the cab on the left side of the AC 4400CW, which houses much of the AC traction electronics.

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train - Every year since 1999, the Canadian Pacific’s Holiday Train has plied CP rails between Montreal and the Pacific coast, helping over a hundred towns and cities celebrate the season by supporting their local food bank. At each stop, a boxcar opens up to become the stage for a traveling band. Trailing passenger cars accommodate Santa and his helpers. Performances are free, but guests are asked to bring donations for the local community’s food bank.

Operating Caboose w/Santa - The caboose features a signaling Santa with a lighted signal lantern. Santa swings out from the end of the caboose to alert the engineer it's ok to move out. The LED-adorned box car will alert all who see it that it's Christmas! And the flat car with trailer features colorful graphics that are sure to bring a smile to even the most hardened Scrooge.

36' Woodsided Reefer - The coming of the railroad changed the way America ate and drank. Before the iron horse connected every town of any importance to the outside world, most food was grown or produced locally. The arrival of cheap, fast, refrigerated transport — in the form of the woodsided reefer with ice bunkers at each end.

100 Ton Hopper - Once relatively unusual, covered hoppers are one of modern railroading’s most common cars, transporting bulk commodities from grain to cement and a variety of powdered and granular products such as raw plastic pellets. The modern cylindrical covered hopper was pioneered by American Car and Foundry in 1961.

LCT License Expiration Spotlight: No. 214 Std. Gauge Box Car

June 19, 2019 - The Lionel Corporation Tinplate license expired on May 1, 2019, and each week for the next month or so, we'll spotlight the last items that are still available from select M.T.H. Authorized Retailers. You can learn more about the end of the Lionel license by going HERE.

This week's feature will look at the No. 214 Std. Gauge Box Car. The car is completely sold out at M.T.H. Electric Trains and is only available from select M.T.H. Authorized Retailers.

The No. 214 Std. Gauge Box Car

In 1926, Lionel replaced the primitive-looking large-size freight cars it had cataloged for 20 years with the new 200-series standard gauge cars: "Not only are these new cars patterned after the big all-steel cars that carry freight across the country, but they incorporate many original and exclusive features of design that only Lionel can carry out to such perfection… The illustrations clearly show that every known type of modern car is faithfully reproduced by us. It is great fun to convert your 'Lionel Standard' Passenger Train into a big Freighter by adding an assortment of these well-built and handsomely finished cars." The 200-series cars were cataloged as "for use with Locomotives Nos. 380E, 381E, 402E, 408E and 400E," although on one occasion, in the 1930 catalog, they appeared in a De-Luxe set with the smaller 390E steamer.

Item No. Lionel Corporation Tinplate No. 214 Std. Gauge Box Car.
