December 16, 2024 - M.T.H. Electric Trains has announced an exclusive and uncataloged Premier O Scale 40’ Steel-Sided Power Meter Car in unique Santa Fe livery for M.T.H. Authorized Retailer Patrick's Trains of Wheeling, West Virginia. The cars will be available in two unique car numbers, each in extremely limited quantities beginning in March 2025.

ABOUT THE PREMIER O SCALE 40’ STEEL-SIDED POWER METER CAR

Monitor your track power with this 40' steel-sided car and its operating power meter. The back-lit meter will sense your AC track voltage, providing a great way to determine track voltage, bad track connections and dirty track sections.

The car body is based on MTH's 40' Steel-Sided Reefer Car. Famed railroad historian John H. White referred to reefers as "the most conservative of all American freight cars," as reefers retained wood frames and sides long after other types of cars had converted to steel construction. Steel-sided reefers like this Premier model became common only after 1940, and many wood reefers ran well into the 1960s. Mechanical reefers, with self-powered refrigeration units in each car, became the norm in the second half of the 20th century, and the practice of stopping a train to re-ice during shipment gradually disappeared.
