F-7 Diesel - Electro-Motive Division's F7 was the zenith of the "covered wagon," or carbody-style diesel. With 3,849 units built between 1949 and 1953, the F7 was both the most popular carbody diesel and its last hurrah. By 1954 U.S. railroads had virtually stopped ordering F-units in favor of hood units like EMD’s GP9 and Alco’s RS-3.

Santa Fe F-7 Passenger Train - Externally, the F7 was very similar to the earlier F3. The key spotting features that distinguished an F7 were its stainless steel upper body grilles that replaced the "chicken wire" worn by most F3s, and the rooftop dynamic brake fan that replaced the F3’s rectangular roof vents just behind the cab.

Swiss Crocodile Electric - In the 33 first-generation Crocodile engines built in 1919–21, the powered jackshaft drove the main rod that was connected to both the first set of drivers and a second idler jackshaft. The Civil War-era marked the emergence of boxcar like cabin cars or conductor’s cars with side and perhaps end doors.

Coalporter Hopper - The Coalporter is one of the latest evolutions in the more-than-150-year history of the American coal hopper. But technically speaking, it’s not a hopper. It’s a high-sided gondola because it lacks the bottom-opening doors that characterize a true hopper.

40' Box Car - With see-through roof walks, grab irons, and other separately added parts, this model is a detailed replica of the Pullman-Standard PS-1 boxcar. Pullman had been making freight cars for more than half a century when it hit a home run with the PS-1.

Flat Car w/40' Trailer - The trailer-on-flat-car, or TOFC, concept actually predates the trucking industry. For a brief period in the 1800s, Long Island farmers could ship their loaded wagons to market on a local railroad.
