Monthly 2016 Vol. 2 Catalog RailKing Spotlight

November 29, 2016 - Each month throughout the coming months, M.T.H. will be spotlighting various items from our 2016 O Gauge Volume 2 catalog. This week's feature will focus on select RailKing O Gauge offerings including the EMD SD60 diesel locomotive, LO-V Subway Sets and select RailKing rolling stock items including the American Crane and Crane Tender, 40' Box Car, Stock Car and traditional Tank Car. Each of these items are currently slated to begin delivering in January 2017.

EMD SD60 Diesel Locomotive  - Introduced in the mid-1980s, the SD60 and its four-axle sister, the GP60, were the first EMD diesels to incorporate computer technology and onboard diagnostics to aid the engineer. Under the hood was a new 16-cylinder model 710 prime mover rated at 3800 horsepower. While the SD60 looked almost identical to the SD50 introduced just four years earlier, under the hood virtually everything had changed.continue reading LO-V Subway Sets  - As the IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit) subway expanded in New York City, the need for additional equipment prompted the ordering of 600 low voltage type motor cars. One hundred of these cars came from Pullman in 1916 and 1917, while the remaining 500 were purchased from American Car and Foundry in 1924.continue reading

American Crane and Crane Tender - In the early days of railroading, the job of cleaning up a wreck was usually done by men and horses. The first steam wrecking crane, a relatively small affair with a 20-ton lifting capacity, appeared in 1883. Its maker, Industrial Works of Bay City Michigan, introduced a fully revolving model a decade later.                    continue reading 40' Box Car - The 40' steel box car so familiar to model railroaders was a product of the 1930s. Wood box cars, which were built into the World War I era, and early steel cars were largely non-standardized, with details varying from railroad to railroad. The trolley is limited in production but can be purchased for $79.95 (plus freight) exclusively through M.T.H. Authorized Retailer Trainworld.

M.T.H. Electric Trains has published its first smartphone and tablet app for controlling a DCS layout wirelessly to the Apple App Store and Google Play stores.

The App provides access to the M.T.H. website allowing visitors to quickly find the latest news, search for products, watch product videos and much, much more.

The app can also control a DCS layout from any smartphone or tablet when paired with a DCS Wi-Fi Interface Unit and DCS Track Interface Unit. Both iOS and Android versions are FREE with an option for in-app purchase upgrades.
