Monthly 2020 RailKing Volume 1 O Gauge Product Spotlight

December 25, 2019 - Each month throughout the year, M.T.H. will be spotlighting various items from our RailKing 2020 Volume 1 O Gauge Catalog.  This week's feature will focus on select O Gauge locomotives including the EMD MP15AC Diesel Locomotive; and select RailKing freight cars including the 40' Boxcar; 4-Bay Cylindrical Hopper; PS-2 Discharge Hopper; and Husky Stack Car. Each of these items is currently slated to begin delivering in February 2020.

EMD MP15AC Diesel Locomotive - The MP15 was the last in a line of EMD end-cab switchers that stretched back to the prewar SW1. By the time the MP15 debuted in 1974, the multipurpose road switcher, descended from the Alco RS-series and the EMD GP7, had become the universal locomotive. The cab unit was already a dinosaur and the single-purpose yard engine was rapidly headed for extinction.  continue reading

40' Box Car - The 40’ steel boxcar so familiar to model railroaders was a product of the 1930s. Wood box cars, which were built into the World War I era, and early steel cars were largely non-standardized, with details varying from railroad to railroad.   continue reading 4-Bay Cylindrical Hopper - Until the advent of the covered hopper, bulk commodities like grain and cement were packed in sacks and loaded into boxcars. PS-2 Discharge Hopper - Although covered hoppers had achieved widespread use by the 1950s, it wasn’t until the following decade that they began to carry North America’s grain harvest. Prior to the mid-1960s, U.S. and Canadian farmers had sent their wheat and other grains to market in 40’ boxcars.   continue reading Husky Stack Car - On April 26, 1956, a revolution in shipping began when the first container ship, a converted oil tanker named Ideal X, left Port Newark, NJ headed for Houston. The brainchild of truck-driver-turned-shipping-magnate Malcolm Purcell McLean, containerization was a giant step forward in shipping efficiency, security and cost.  continue reading

M.T.H. Electric Trains will be attending the World's Greatest Hobby On Tour Show on January 4 - 5, 2020 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio.

HO, S Scale, O Scale, One Gauge and tinplate model railroading fans in the greater Detroit area attending the event will have an opportunity to meet and ask M.T.H. Representatives questions about the M.T.H. product line, company direction and future plans as well as see product demonstrations and pick up a copy of our latest catalogs.
