If you’ve been a fan of our traditionally themed Halloween cars over the past 10 years, then this year's collection may just be our best ever. The wide selection of cars are specially decorated in Halloween colors and graphics. Many feature operating lights that really bring the cars to life and make outstanding additions to our ES44 Diesel and Caboose set or the streamlined 4-6-2 Crusader steam locomotive.

With its spooky sounds and variable-intensity exhaust smoke, the Imperial series diesel and RailKing steam engine are the perfect options for pulling your Halloween car collection — no matter whether you’ve got every car in the series or are just starting out. Turn down the lights and run your own Halloween Special!

EMD GP40 Diesel Engine - Both under the hood and under the frame, the GP40 exemplified EMD’s product line in transition. Along with its less-powerful sister, the GP38, the Geep 40 was the first EMD locomotive with the model 645 diesel motor. Its predecessor, the 567 diesel that had powered EMD locos since the late 1930s had become inadequate to meet customers’ demands for higher horsepower.

Bay Window Caboose - As freight cars grew taller, observing a train from the cupola of a caboose became increasingly difficult. In the wooden car era, another problem with cupola cabooses was sagging roofs. In an effort to solve these problems, the Akron, Canton & Youngstown railroad introduced the bay window caboose in 1923.           continue reading

Coil Car - The coil car first appeared in the 1960s as a safer way to trans port coiled sheet metal, usually steel, to manufacturers of stamped metal items from car parts to appliances. Prior to that, steel mills had often shipped out coiled metal in open gondolas, exposed to the elements and other sources of potential damage.

100 Ton Hopper Car - Once relatively unusual, covered hoppers are one of modern railroading’s most common cars, transporting bulk commodities from grain to cement and a variety of powdered and granular products such as raw plastic pellets. The modern cylindrical covered hopper was pioneered by American Car and Foundry in 1961.
